It may sound like a given, but Tactics truly impresses in its presentation as another quintessential Gears entry. All of the smells and flavors that helped characterize the series are seamlessly translated over. Cinematic cutscenes are smartly interwoven throughout the story, filled with plenty of tension created by the cast of fantastic voice talent. Low, brassy orchestral lines to add to the gritty, dark atmosphere – it’s all th
If the player wants the Vanguard to be a dominant offensive force, Source Skills found in the Warden and Shock Trooper trees are ideal. The Warden branch, in particular, allows for the creation of an exemplary tank. Picking up the Distraction skill allows the Vanguard to force enemies to fire on them, taking the heat off of other team mates under threat. This synergizes excellently with the Badass skill; shearing a full 75% of the damage of the first shot to hit the Vanguard on every turn means they are more or less guaranteed to come out nearly unscathed. Even if they don't grabbing the Self Revive skill means that even death won't keep them down, causing them to pop back up after the first time they get dropped. For a more field control based approach, the combination of Breach, which causes Locusts caught in the skill's radius to give up AP and health to their killer on death, and demoralize, a weapon attack that both damages and debuffs enemies hit by it, makes the Shock Trooper ideal for asserting control over a bat
The Tim Schafer led studio is all hands on deck for Psychonauts 2 , a game which has really benefited from Microsoft's support. Recently, Schafer admitted that had Microsoft not come along to purchase the studio, numerous features and segments would have had to have been cut from the game to prevent it from going over budget. With Microsoft now backing the studio, the game will be able to reach its full potent
One of the major diversions to traditional tactics games, a playthrough in Gears Tactics doesn't end when the story ends. Veteran missions take place after the story is completed, and players lead their COGs in mission after mission, so anyone can keep playing with their favorite squadmates even after the story is o
At the July 23 showcase, Double Fine revealed it had again partnered with Jack Black, showing a scene where Black sings during a really trippy segment of gameplay. While it was nice seeing the game being shown off again, the studio also dropped some unfortunate news by confirming the game suffered another delay, this time into 2
No one can put out focused damage like the Sniper. Given the proper space (and ideally elevation) to work, the ranged specialist can inflict heavy damage on any foe, softening up hard targets and mopping up damaged enemies in a single deadly sweep. The skills of the class allow the player to choose their particular flavor of deadly at a dista
Among the many turn-based tactics staples adopted by the adaptation is the action point system. What can be done on a turn is capped by each soldiers pool of points that must be divvied out between movement orders, weapon attacks, and the use of special skills. While fairly intuitive to more experience players of the genre, the new players coming to the game from the third person shooter forerunner may find themselves a bit overwhelmed by what, on the surface, looks like a fairly restrictive system. While there is certainly enough in-game time to self-teach the finer details of action points, this guide aims to arm new players with a run down on how to best use the action points in combat. From movement and positioning to the basics of point management, this guide gives new players all they need to make their team into an efficient locust-killing mach
Whatever the studio is working on, it does appear to be in a playable state as Phil Spencer has previously commented on the work the team has been doing and posted a picture of himself play testing the ga
Gears Tactics is a great way for many fans of the Gears of War series to get into the turn-based strategy genre if they haven't already. Even if gamers aren't interested in the genre as a whole or are already into it, there's a lot of extra things to do in the game after beating the story of the g
A standard in the customization of soldiers for turn-based strategy games, each class has a skill tree that can be upgraded to allow them all to do different things. In Gears Tactics, the skills fall into four different subclasses for each cl
It is especially lucky for this class that one of the first skill available is one of the most useful in the entire game: Fast Fingers. The automatic reload on a hit at the skill's first level is incredibly beneficial, but the second level is where the ability truly shines. Getting an action point refund along with the reload is effectively a reset for the Sniper - a clean slate and a whole turn if used as an opener, or a last minute surge of damage if used to close out the ro
